Welcome back to all of our families and we extend an especially warm welcome to the many new students and their families joining our school.

In preparation for the start of year we reattach last year’s Final Newsletter which includes important information we would like you all to be familiar with.  You will find details about the following:

  • School structure

  • Stationery purchases  (please have your child’s stationery all ready to go for Monday 4th February).  Online ordering may no longer be available and you may need to purchases your child’s items in your local store.

  • Donation and Activity Fee

  • After School Care fee increase

Vela Pool Complex

Many families have enjoyed the Vela Pool Complex over the summer and we know it will be extra popular this week!  Over the season we have monitored the use of the facility and based on this have made a few changes for those who hold pool passes.  The amended hours are as follows:

Saturday and Sundays: Pool open 1pm - 7 pm.

Weekdays: Extra sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from  5:30pm - 7:15 pm.

Karaka Berries

Our beautiful Karaka tree is again shedding its berries.  We sweep daily to remove these but remind families that the berries are highly poisonous and all children know not to touch or eat them. Please be aware of this for your preschoolers also and help us reinforce this message with your school age children.

Upcoming Events

Our website calendar is up to date and includes the events we will be involved with for Term 1.  Please regularly check this as sometimes changes outside of our control are necessary to scheduled events.

PTA Road Crossing Initiative

We are excited to let you know about a new initiative our PTA are introducing to help encourage our students and families to walk and bike to school and to be able to do so safely.

Starting in Week 2 of Term 1, parent volunteers will be supervising two road crossings on Newell Road, in addition to the road patrolled pedestrian crossing outside school. The supervised crossings will be near the corner by Punnet and outside Lil Pumpkins.

The volunteers will be wearing high vis vests but there will not be any signs or requests for cars to stop - the volunteers are there to assist children in choosing a safe time to cross and to raise awareness to drivers that there are children biking and walking in the area.

The crossings will be manned for 10-15 minutes each morning. The more volunteers the better so we can share the load - if you would like to help, even infrequently, or if you would like any further information please email Alice van der Heyden at Alice.candy@gmail.com or call 021 628 776.
