Syndicate Exciting Learning

Taupiri Syndicate:

This term we are starting the term learning about our school vision and what it means to be part of a team.  Later in the term we are going to learn about lizards and their needs for survival in New Zealand.  We are also lucky to have X Man visit us at the end of the term to help us learn ways we can make our lunch boxes litter free.  This term we will be continuing to enjoy swimming lessons in our new school pool and would appreciate parents ensuring togs and towels are at school every day for swimming.  Later in the term, we are hosting the Junior Country Cluster Tabloids, a fun sports day with the other local schools who make up our cluster.

Pirongia Syndicate:

The Year of Time Travel!

“Learn from the Past; Live in the Present; Believe in the Future”

Term One: Into the Past.

This week the Pirongia syndicate will set the dial on our time machine to look at the Treaty of Waitangi. Together we will discover how everyone is an important piece of our class puzzle and share the things that are special about ourselves before creating our class Treaties. We will revisit our Pepeha’s (how to introduce ourselves in Maori). These will be shared in a syndicate hui in week 3.

Further into the term we will travel through time to look into how life in our area has changed overtime. We will be looking forward to a trip to Mystery Creek Education Centre in Week 8 to help us in our learning.

Maungatautari Syndicate:

Our learning this term is centred around the big idea of ‘Relationships’. This will look different in each learning area.

Health and Vision: To begin the term we will be unpacking our school vision and identifying what this means to us as individuals, the school and community.  We will also be taking a closelook at what kind of learner we are and how we learn best.

Math:  For the first 6 weeks of term we will be focussing on Number Knowledge for Math.  This will be taught in our guardian classes. Weeks 7-11 we will be moving into the measurement strand.  It is at this point that we will be grouping our children across the pod and syndicate.

Writing:  This term we will be concentrating on personal recount drawing on children’s personal experiences using a variety of  literary conventions to create clear imagery.  Later in the term we will delve into transactional recount writing to link with the up and coming Commonwealth Games.

Physical Education:  Swimming will be the main area of focus for PE to begin with, preparing for the school Swimming Sports and Triathlon later in the term.  Children are to bring their swimming togs everyday to swim.  If they are unable to swim for a particular reason, then we ask for a note to be sent along explaining this as we will be expecting them to have their togs otherwise.  Swimming is a very important component of the New Zealand Curriculum and we are very lucky with the new amazing facility we have.
