For the first time in many years we again had teams entered in the North Island Primary School Champs held at Whakapapa - Mt Ruapehu on the 2nd &

3rd September. This was thanks to a team of dedicated parents.

Nine Tamahere students competed in two teams.

Tamahere Gold: Logan G, Sienna M, Zoe V, Kaylee V, Nico V.

Tamahere Green: Max M, Luca M, Josh J, Isabelle A

The competition was fierce with the Auckland Schools offering snow sports as an after

school curriculum activity at Snow Planet in Auckland and 124 teams participating.

Tamahere Gold was placed 26th behind Kings School B, while Tamahere Green was

placed 92nd, a commendable effort with all team members new to NIPS racing this year.

Day 1 consisted of a Giant Slalom, racing against the clock. Day 2 was Dual Slalom

racing against another skier with a similar placing from Day 1.  It made for some exciting

racing. Day 3 was Skier-Cross, which unfortunately was cancelled due to weather.

Kaylee V was the top point scorer for the Tamahere Gold, with a commendable

19th  placing on Day 1 and winning both her Dual Slalom races.

A great effort by all the team with great sportsmanship and taking the challenge in their

stride, and to the parents who joined forces to get kids to races on time, fed and watered in

the café. Appreciate your efforts.

Finally, a huge thanks to Amanda Verhoeven and Debi Gallagher for their superb organisation as Team Managers.
