Marae Trip

Monday and Tuesday this week has been a hive of activity at Tamahere Model Country School with a wide range of learning experiences provided to close our Te Reo focus this term.

Monday morning greeted us with a crisp but sunny start as Kotuku and Hoiho departed to spend the day at Nga Hau e Wha (Cambridge Community Marae).  This was an amazing and memorable experience for all that was repeated again Tuesday for Takahe and Kakapo.  At the arrival of the Marae the children participated in a Powhiri welcome onto the marae then moved into a rotation of activities which included making poi, learning a little history, and seeing and discussing Maori artifacts of the past.  It was a lovely opportunity to unite in our school whanau groups to share, communicate and learn together.

Back at school the day progressed through a number of activities such as Maori kowhaiwhai art, poi actions, rakau games, sport, dance and retelling of legends.  The children again had the opportunity to work in their whanau groups supporting each other.

A huge thankyou goes out to all the parents that offered their help on each of these days, this is very much appreciated.  We also extend our thanks to Nga Hau e Wha Marae for their wonderful hospitality.  They welcomed us with warmth and enthusiasm that provided a pleasurable experience for all.  Also to the teachers that have worked hard behind the scenes to put together such a successful and rewarding two days.
