Hangi Experience - Prep day - Wednesday 18th and Eating Thursday 19th December!

posted Nov 28, 2019, 5:03 PM by Reception @TMCS

Dear Whanau,

We are very excited about our upcoming school haangi.  This is an exciting opportunity for all of our children and we are sure many of you would also like to join us on this special occasion.

All children have been learning about tikanga associated with the Marae and the process of a  Powhiri and are now learning to understand the process of cooking food in ‘haangi style’.

The purpose of the ‘Haangi day experience’ is for children to relate their knowledge and learn through a hands-on experience how a haangi is prepared and very importantly how it tastes.

All of our children will be involved in this traditional feast. We will prep the kai and prepare the pits on Wednesday the 18th of December and continue the cooking process on Thursday the 19th of December.

Closer to the event, we will be requesting donations of tinfoil, potatoes, kumara, pumpkin (precut) and carrots. We will have a donation station set up in the office foyer. These donations would be greatly appreciated from Wednesday the 11th of December. We have been very fortunate to have been donated a significant number of chickens which we will use as our main source of meat.

We have an amazing team of whanau who have offered their support to the running of this event and are currently planning the day.  We will however need more adult support specifically on the day. If you are interested in being part of the Hangi committee please contact us via email.
