Food for Thought

During Week 1, the students in Maungatautari Syndicate were offered the chance to take part in Foodstuff’s free programme ‘Food for Thought’ which helped educate the students to make healthier food and lifestyle choices. Food for Thought is a national Nutrition Education Programme developed for Years 5-6 based on the New Zealand Curriculum and an inquiry-based learning approach.

Andy came and taught two classroom lessons to each class, which focussed on the food groups and having positive relationships with food, as well as label reading and sugar in drinks. The week culminated in a wonderful field trip to the local Four Square which reinforced the classroom learning.

We are extremely grateful to Foodstuffs who have provided a free lunchbox for every child, and also a $60 Four Square voucher, to use towards a healthy shared lunch for each class in the syndicate.
