Opening of Wiremu Tamihana Drive

posted Dec 10, 2014, 12:05 PM by Reception @TMCS
On Monday 15 December the new access road between Devine and Airport Roads will be open to traffic.

This road has been named Wiremu Tamihana Drive in honour of the Ngati Haua chief who is Tamahere’s first person of historic significance. The road has been blessed by Ngati
Haua to ensure the safe passage of people who use this road.

The opening of Wiremu Tamihana Drive means:

- There is no through access to Airport Road from Newell Road or vice versa.

- There is no right turn onto SH1 from Devine Road. Traffic from Devine Road wanting to head towards Cambridge will need to use Wiremu Tamihana Drive, left onto Airport Road and right at the roundabout.

- The speed limit on Wiremu Tamihana Drive is 50 kph.

- Traffic can access Devine Road from Airport Road via Wiremu Tamihana Drive.

The creation of this new link road will reduce through traffic using Newell Rd between SH1 and Airport Rd (SH21) to access Hamilton International Airport. Please encourage  mainstream traffic to use the new Waikato Expressway system or SH1.
