Ag Day 2017 - Notice #1

Entry forms will be at the office.

Our Agriculture and Horticulture day is coming up fast.  Hopefully you have got your animals and garden ideas all organised.

Ag Day will be held on Friday 20th October this year.

If you are having trouble getting hold of a calf we have some contacts and may be able to point you in the right direction.  Calves have been offered again this year by a Tamahere family and the offer is far too amazing to pass up.  If you have thought about rearing a calf but do not have the means or space to do this, Karen Higginbottom and Roger Duncan can help you with this, please call them on 823 2135 or 021 092 9163 (Roger).

Please note there are handouts for calves to be taken when you hand in your entry form.

If you need a lamb, please regularly check the school website for any lambs available.

Don’t forget lambs need to be docked, ringed (rams) and vaccinated between 1 and 3 weeks old. It is recommended that this is done no later than this to keep stress to a minimum.  The lamb then needs to be vaccinated again 4-6 weeks later.

In 3 weeks’ time, Cambridge Vets will offer the vaccination and assist docking and ringing at Tamahere School.  The date for this is Saturday 26th August from 1pm – 2pm.  If you plan to attend this event please text Sharon on 021 207 4778.

Please note there are handouts for lambs to be taken when you hand in your entry form.

The Judges have let us know that the animals cannot be shared in a category.  If the animal must be shared, the animal may only be entered in each category once.  For example, Bob enters his lamb in the leading and Most Obvious Pet, Bob’s little sister Mary can only enter it in the rearing category.  This makes it fair for all involved.  There is also the opportunity for every child and animal to enter our Cluster Schools Group Day and the Hamilton A & P Show.

There will be a Judges Talk and demonstration to be held at school if you have any questions  with what happens on Ag Day.  For example explaining leading, rearing and most obvious pet.  This will be held on Thursday 21st September during lunch time from 12:20 – 1:15pm.

Best Dressed animal and owner will not be a part of Ag Day this year due to limited space.

We need parents to lend a hand setting up the day before, we will be doing this from 1pm the day before and pack down will be done before prize giving on the day. Remember many hands make light work, your contribution will be appreciated!  There is a lot of hard work that we put into organising this day to make it successful and fun for your children.  Please if you have a child that is entering Ag Day, come and give us a helping hand, even if you can only make it for a short time or after school pick up.

Do you have a business that would like to sponsor our schools Ag day? Please let Pip know at  We are looking for any sponsorship to help pay for the engraving of the cups and running costs of this day.
